New Catalogue is a group made up by photographers Luke Batten and Jonathan Sadler. Their work is a-a-a-awesome.
Using a methodology that both parallels and gently ridicules the concept of stock photo agencies, New Catalogue has created a series of original editions that tap into popular culture while expanding on traditional photographic genres. - from their website
They printed a small run book in 2005 with Nazraeli Press (only 500 copies), titled Big Ten Co-Eds, Preppy Girls, and The Lost Cheerleaders. The book is beautifully made, large (11x14"), with 30 four color illustrations. In addition there is virtually no text apart from the titles, the images literally fill the pages. The book includes three series: Lost Cheerleaders, Preppy Girls With BB Gun (shown above), Big Ten Co-Eds With Ski Mask (shown below).
On first glance at Big Ten Co-Eds with Ski Masks you might think the Zapatistas have infiltrated ivy league campuses but I assure you this isn't the case. The images show college age girls in ski masks alone in campus settings. The images have a somber and satirical feel. Such characteristics can be found throughout their other series as well in subtler degrees.
Amazingly enough you can still find copies of this book. The deluxe edition from Nazraeli includes a print and is limited to 50 copies, it is $500 (find it under limited editions). Online Nazraeli only has the deluxe edition listed but contact them and you might be able to get the normal $65 edition. Otherwise you can find it at photoeye.
They have a divers selection of projects on their website, all of which are quite excellent. They include (in addition to the aforementioned selections from the book): Ivy League - Yale (pictured above), Ivy League - Princeton, Boy Recording Ambient Sounds For His Independent Film (first image in entry), A. Hitler and D. Eckart: Obersalzberg to Hoher Goll, and Tiger Afternoon.
